  1. Clinical trial

Radiation and nitroimidazoles in supratentorial high grade gliomas: a second clinical trial

Urtasun R et al., British Journal of Cancer, 1982

In 66 high-grade astrocytoma patients randomised to conventional radiation, large-fraction radiation with high-dose metronidazole, or the same with misonidazole, neither higher radiation dose nor the nitroimidazole sensitizers improved survival over conventional fractionated radiation.

  2. Clinical trial

Radiation and high-dose metronidazole in supratentorial glioblastomas

Urtasun R et al., New England Journal of Medicine, 1976

In 36 glioblastoma patients randomised to radiation alone or radiation with high-dose metronidazole as a hypoxic cell radiosensitizer, the metronidazole group showed a 4.5-month delay between relapse and death (P = 0.02), interpreted by the authors as a delay in tumour regrowth.
